Coffee Futures Closed With New Record Highs
Coffee futures extended their record-breaking streak today, settling higher for the sixth consecutive session. The benchmark March 2025 contract traded to a session high of 369.45 on strong volume, with over 50,000 lots changing hands in New York—the highest daily volume since December 19th. Origin selling has slowed considerably over the past week as prices broke higher, while roaster buying has increased for end-of-month volume commitments. Additional buying and pricing activity have also been observed in deferred contracts for buyers.
The arabica March/May spread stalled below a 6.00-cent premium, settling at 5.25 cents. Meanwhile, robusta futures closed higher, though the nearby structure continues to weaken, with the March/May spread finishing at a $28 premium. The arabica/robusta March/March arbitrage ended the session at 112 cents.
Certified arabica stocks declined by 24,655 bags today, bringing the total in Antwerp to 579,299 bags. Notably, 29,366 bags of Brazilian coffee were presented for grading in Antwerp, adding a potential source of new supply to the exchange.
